Volunteer Name: David Resetar

When, Where: February 2009, Plong, Chiang Rai

Goal: Educate youth about HIV/AIDS and help build leaders

Target Group: 50 Plong High School, ages 15-18

What Happened: Three-day youth life skills camp.

On the first day we played life skills games and team-building activities from the Youth GIG Activities and Friends Tell Friends books.

On the second day, we took a pre-test about HIV/AIDS and ran five stations for a full day of activities from the Youth GIG Activities and Friends Tell Friends books teaching participants about HIV/AIDS and how to be community leaders. That afternoon we had a great two-hour presentation by AIDS Access Foundation and Thoeng Hospital. That night we did a wrap-up, played team-building games, and learned about Valentine’s Day.

On the final day we took a bus to a national park in Chiang Rai and painted five large educational murals about HIV/AIDS. Later we hung the murals up at the high school, city hall, health clinic, day care, and left one to carry during parades.
