Project Gold Digger: An ICT Mini-Conference
Project Description:
A two day ‘training of trainers’ mini-conference for a group of 6 Peace Corps Volunteer participants. The main focus will be on teaching the best practices for capturing and organizing information for the future use of Peace Corps Thailand staff, volunteers, counterparts and communities.
Timeframe:
October 2007 - November 2007
Goals/Objectives:
  • The conference will focus on the training of a small group of Peace Corps Thailand Volunteers in the use of three different mediums (Wiki, database, digital recordings) for capturing and organizing information for the future use of other Peace Corps Thailand Volunteers and their Thai counterparts and communities.
  • These volunteers will then be responsible for training the larger Peace Corps Thailand community so that by next year, most if not all current volunteers will know how, and be actively using, the three mediums.
  • A system of institutional memory will be put in place that will enhance collaboration, streamline the process for information gathering and make available all the resources which previous volunteers have accumulated to future volunteers and their communities.
Successes:

  • Core group of 9 PCVs registered as users and contributed to the Wetpaint wiki.

  • Participants uploaded a “best-case” project and supporting documents onto the wiki database
  • Participants Developed database templates for HIV/AIDS NGOs
  • Developed database templates for CEC's Success Case Replication collection project
  • Participants learned to create new templates; wiki and database

  • A bed sheet makes a good makeshift projector screen
