Project Name:
Logos, Packaging, Budgeting and Marketing Training
Project Description:
An interactive training to teach the occupational groups in the village how to make a logo for their group and/or product, create new packaging for their product, keep budget books for the group, look at profit and loss statements, and learn a bit more about basic marketing to expand their current market.
Timeframe:
Can be completed in one full day, but best to spread out over two mornings with workshops in the afternoon.
Goals/Objectives:
  • To teach groups what to look for in a logo, label, and packaging.
  • To have the groups brainstorm about what they are looking for in their product image.
  • To teach the groups about weekly/monthly budgeting.
  • To teach the groups about profit and loss within the group business.
  • To teach basic marketing skills to the groups leaders in hopes of groups expanding their markets.
Successes:
  • 5 new group logos
  • 3 new product packaging
  • 6 groups now completing weekly/monthly book-keeping
  • 4 groups expanded their current selling market
Challenges:
  • I was unable to get support from my SAO on this training. All the grunt work for this project I completed in Thai on my own, including the training with more than 20 Thai adults. I did however get support from two of the local groups and they purchased supplies so that we could work on packaging at the training.
Lessons Learned:
  • It was very fun to work with group. They were very receptive to me putting in so much effort, and enjoyed interacting with me.
  • I learned that stepping away from the SAO is best when trying to work with the groups. If the SAO is involved, the groups expect it all to be done and given to them for FREE.
  • Follow up with each group on an individual basis is important because they are more willing to talk with you when they are not at the training.
