Project Name:
Forests and Global Warming Environment Camp
Project Description:
Educaitonal camp where students learned about the importance of forests and about global warming and helped re-forest an area. Day one spent at local National Park, day 2 at SAO Nam Phrae
Timeframe:
July 31st 2008 - August 1st 2008
Goals/Objectives:
  • Increase understanding of the importance of forests.
  • Increase awareness of Global Warming and the actions that contribute to Global Warming and those that abate Global Warming.
  • Re-forest area around Sakondamree fish pond.
Successes:
  • Achieved all 3 objectives above. Sounds pretty successful to me!
  • Also, camp designed well and almost runs itself with little PCV coaxing neccessary.
Challenges:
  • Convincing SAO that this type of thing mattered.
Lessons Learned:
  • I think a dry run for any tech stuff you will be using would be smart. We had a last-minute problem with that but were lucky to have another DVD player that could be connected to projector and used.
  • Also, took a month longer than I expected to get project to happen and because tree-planting is dependant on adequate rainfall planning further in advance may have made it less stressfull. but, that's your call.

Mike,
Do you have any lesson plans or project outlines for this camp? Sounds interesting, and I'm sure other volunteers would be interested in replicating it. You could share such documents by creating a new page on the wiki and copying and pasting the information. Or you could upload the original documents onto SharePoint.

Thanks for adding this project!
Scott
