There are three typical ways of navigating through the wiki.
Search box
On the top of the left column on each page is a search box. Type in a few terms (separated by spaces; no commas needed), and the search engine will look for them in the name, content, and tags of all of the pages on the wiki. It will even look for the term in the older versions of the pages.
Please note, however, that the results for your search will include ALL of your terms. If you type in four words and only three of them match a particular page, you will not get that page. For this reason, you're adviced to keep your searches relatively simple for the time being. Similarly, you're encouraged to add tags to a page that reflect the terms you would use to try to find that page.
Navigation Box
Immediately under the search box on each page is a Navigation box that puts the pages into a navigable hierarchy. Each page name is a link, and every page has exactly one spot in the hierarchy.
One way to think of it as somewhat like a folders hierarchy in Windows Explorer. You can explore the hierarchy by clicking on the triangle next to a page name, just like clicking a plus sign next to a folder in Explorer.
Taking this analogy one step further, when you're in a particular folder (call it folder 'A') in Explorer and create a new folder('B'), folder B goes inside A in the hierarchy. Similarly, whenever you make a new page, the page is by default created in the hierarchy "inside" the page that you're currently on. (This can be changed during the page creation process by use of the
Change Location button in the "Add a Page" menu box.
Pages can be moved around within the hierarchy, but in general, it's best to start a new page within an appropriate "parent" page for it (for example, starting a page about Chiang Mai while you're looking at a page on tourist spots in Thailand). If you want to make a page without an appropriate parent, then you can keep your new page from being hidden in the hierarchy by creating it from the Home page.
Inter-Page Navigation
The content of a page can also have a link to another page on the site (or a page outside of the site for that matter). These links are independent of the Navigation Hierarchy, and in keeping with the Explorer comparison, would be similar to a "shortcut" that you create for a file.
To create such a link while editing a page, simply highlight the text that you want to serve as a link, click on the "Link" icon in the EasyEdit toolbar, and begin typing the name of the page you want to link to. If you don't know the full page name, WetPaint will soon offer suggestions matching your text. Select the appropriate one, click the "Add Link" button, and the link will be created as soon as you save your editing.
