Most of Ms. Doe’s time was focused at school; however she was able to work on some secondary projects. On Fridays for the first 6 months Ms. Doe went to the Tessabon Office where she learned more about the educational system, built relationships within the office, and taught conversational English to persons interested. The following Fridays she decided to attend Tessabon 5 School and co-taught there. Saturdays were often filled with helping local community members with their English, assisting with applications, giving opportunities to persons to practice their English conversational skills, and playing English games with local children at her house. Aside from English she helped several people learn basic skills in baking and computer proficiency. On Sunday Ms. Doe regularly attended The Christian Church of Nakhon Nam. She helped broaden their horizons with internet and email instruction and taught some English. Ms. Doe also helped with translating, Sunday school lessons, and piano lessons there.

Ms. Doe was also able to participate and take part in short-term Secondary Projects at her schools. She was the principal coordinator for 3 English Camps in the Tessabon Educational Unit. The first camp was called English Summer Classes (2004). During the students school break 50 fifth grade students attended a two week morning class. These classes gave the students a start-up overview of English for the new school year. The following year Nakhon Nam’s 1st English Camp (2005) was held. Again fifth graders from the five Tessabon schools attended this camp. This was a two day-one night camp focusing on the province of Nakhon Nam but included sessions covering every school subject by using English. During the October Mid-term Break (2005) 9th and 10th grade students participated in the English Conversational Camp. This camp went for one week and focused on students speaking and critical thinking skills. 50 students were able to break into small groups for activities. These three camps were possible with the cooperation of co-teachers of some of the activities that had been introduced and demonstrated in classes and other camps.

Ms. Doe participated in several other community activities. She helped with English camps with Rotary and in other provinces helping other volunteers. She also helped with two teacher trainings. In the community Ms. Doe promoted exercise and was part of the local running group.

In Nakhon Nam, Ms. Doe was also able to develop a relationship with Dr. Preecha Ngamsumrong. Dr. Preecha is a psychiatrist at Nakhon Nam Psychiatric Hospital. Similar to an internship, Ms. Doe went to the hospital with Dr. Preecha every Wednesday for 3 months (July 2005-September 2005). From this experience she was able to get hands on experience in a psychiatric hospital setting and was able to gain a better understanding of Thai culture and life. In exchange Dr. Preecha was able to practice and use his English skills.

During her second year of Peace Corps Service, Ms. Doe served on the Project Review Committee (PRC) for Peace Corps Thailand. Six meetings were held and 11 proposals were able to get funding for community projects. The proposals included generating income projects and AIDS awareness projects. Responsibilities included: helping volunteers write complete and correct proposals, reviewing those proposals as a committee and following up with the proper details to complete the proposal. Ms. Doe also was an alternative Emergency Contact Person (ECP) for her respected area in Northeastern Thailand. If a problem would arise she was in charge of contacting and accounting for the volunteers in her area.

Ms. Doe spent a lot of time building relationships in the community and worked hard to learn the language. At the completion of her service, Ms. Doe was tested in Thai language by a Peace Corps certified examiner, and scored Intermediate High on the Language Proficiency Interview scale.
Pursuant to section 5(f) of the Peace Corps. Act, 22 USC 2504(f), as amended, any former Volunteer employed by the United States Government following his Peace Corps Volunteer service is entitled to have any period of satisfactory Peace Corps service credited for purposed of retirement, seniority, reduction in force, leave, and other privileges based on length of Government service.
This is to certify in accordance with Executive Order 11130 of April 10, 1963, that Ms. Doe served successfully as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Her service ended on March 31, 2008. Her benefits under the Executive Order extend for a period of one year after termination of Volunteer service, except that the employing agency may extend the period for up to three years for a former Volunteer who enters military service, pursues studies at a recognized institution of higher learning, or engages in other activities that, in the view of the appointing agency, warrant extension of the period.
