Institution familiar with Peace Corps/your name?: I work with the Mae Sot office on a regular basis, and they are familiar with the Peace Corps name. Some Chiang Mai staff originated in Mae Sot, and may be familiar, too. They will be most likely to know me as "Peter from Mae Laa Village"

Additional Details:
- Primarily work in the refugee camps, though they have begun to expand into villages in Tak and Mae Hong Son.
- Most staff also speaks Karen, but WEAVE has worked with other ethnicities as well.
- Have a working relationship with Thai Tribal Craft, including a co-run store in Mae Sot.
- Much of their sales are overseas, including large orders with distributors.
- In addition to working with the weaving process, WEAVE has taught accounting, design, and leadership skills. Often, though, those trainings were conducted in Karen or Burmese, and I believe most of their training material is not available in Thai.
- WEAVE begins working with a community by surveying their needs and desires, displaying sample products, and determining the community's interests. They could be a resource for volunteers looking to do the same at site.
- WEAVE often involves short-term assistance from foreigners in their work.
Comments:
- Small staff, but they have all been active in the organization for a number of years.
- Though the WEAVE/Thai Tribal Craft store is just starting up, I get the impression that it will focus more on Indigenous/ Hill Tribe Thai goods than on camp-produced work. They have shown a willingness to sell from groups located off the border and from communities with Peace Corps connections.
- Special interest, at the time being, with silver products.
- Though the present staff does have long tenure, there seems to be regular shifting between the Mae Sot and Chiang Mai offices. The contact names above may not be correct when you make inquiries, but I assume that if you send an email, they will notify you of the present correct person to contact.
