mail in thailand

How does it work?I don't have a mail box and I have a gate. Will the mailman unlatch my gate, walk up my inner courtyard, knock on my door, slide letter under? Is it better to have stuff delivered to our school/office? Do you find this valuable?

I can't speak for TCCO, but I believe most CBODers get our mail delivered to the SAOs--even the CBODers who don't work very much at the SAOs. At one point just after handing in my site locater form, Peace Corps tried sending my mail to my house, and it just got delivered at the SAO anyway. As a result, I just asked nicely to have my mail addressed for the SAO, and Peace Corps sent it where I asked.

I'm in TCCO, and you can go with either a mailbox at home or the school address. If you want to get mail at home, you should get a mailbox (+/- 120 bt), and you can put it up on your fence. Getting mail at home avoids the hassle of colleagues with good intentions at the school who pick mail up for you and forget to give it to you for a while. The downside, though, is some PC mailings won't fit in a standard mailbox. For that reason, I've told Peace Corps to send stuff to my school. My family, on the other hand, sends small letters directly to my house. You can do it either way, and as 3jnerd said, they might send it to the school regardless of how it's addressed! I get my mail sent to my SAO, I'm CBOD, but would like it sent to my house instead for two reasons: 1. sometimes I get a care package from home that's too big to bike, like the b-day one I just got, with so I have to ask someone to go out of their way to help me, 2. my SAO is very curious about what I get, and my counterpart likes to read my mail from home, and sometimes forces me to give away items that I'd rather keep.
