Making Deposits
Apr 24 2008, 9:50 PM EDT
I'm a Bangkok Bank customer, and I used an automated deposit machine inside my bank to make a deposit. It was very easy. Just like using an ATM, but the machine was different. After I keyed in my PIN and told it that I wanted to make a deposit, a little slot opened up in the machine, and I just put my cash in there. It counted it all, spit out one bill which was kind of wrinkled (so I straightened it), then ran the counter again and it confirmed that I had put in all the money I thought I had. Then it gave me a reciept... Voila! And it was all in English, so it was easy peasy.

Did you happen to get any sense as to whether it would be so simple to do that with an American account/card?

Ahh, see, I guess I knew I was missing something. The question certainly seemed like a basic one to me...No I didn't get a sense as to how easy it would be with an American account. However, I sort of imagine that it ISN'T very easy. This probably varies from bank to bank, but I know that when I came back from a year living in Spain, my home bank, Washington Mutual, had a very lengthy (and expensive) process just to deposit a check that had been made out to me in Euro's into my account. I know another person who was able to easily deposit at Bank of America with almost no problem at all. So currency is the first problem. Also, I've never tried to make a deposit back in the states at another banks ATM, so I don't even know how that works, much less how that would work here in Thailand. Given how fond Thai banks are of charging you little fees for doing almost anything (or so it seems), I can't imagine they would make it very easy. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
